AfterThe challenge
The home had two layers of shingles, gaps between the 1920s plank boards and a dormer valley that had been caulked many times. The owners wanted a clean look that respected the historic street.
What we did
- Removed both layers and overlaid the plank deck with 7/16 OSB for a solid nailing surface
- Ice and water shield in both valleys and the full dormer wall
- Weathered wood architectural shingles with a low-profile ridge vent
- New step and counter flashing at the dormer cheek walls
The result
Dry dormer through the spring rains, attic temperature down 14 degrees on a July afternoon (sample reading).
