Roof insurance claims, step by step

We document damage the way adjusters evaluate it, meet them on your roof and keep the process clear from first call to final invoice.

How a roof claim usually goes

Timelines vary by insurer. This is a typical Colorado hail claim with Summit Peak helping along the way.

  1. Day 1

    Free storm inspection

We inspect, mark test squares and tell you plainly whether damage looks claim-worthy.

  2. Day 1 to 3

    You file the claim

Call your insurer or file online. Share our photo report if you like.

  3. Week 1 to 2

    Adjuster inspection

An adjuster visits. We attend at no charge to walk the roof and point out damage.

  4. Week 2 to 4

    Estimate and scope

Your insurer sends a scope of loss. We review it for missed items such as code-required drip edge.

  5. If needed

    Supplement request

We submit documentation for missing items directly to the adjuster for review.

  6. Approved

    Schedule your roof

You pay your deductible. We install, usually in one day, and send final photos.

  7. After install

    Depreciation release

Many replacement cost policies release held-back funds once work is complete. We send the paperwork.

The adjuster meeting

Adjusters are busy after a big storm and may spend under an hour on your roof. Having a roofer present who has already documented every slope helps make sure nothing gets missed.

  • Test squares chalked and photographed in advance
  • Soft metal damage pointed out to confirm hail size
  • Code items like ice and water shield and drip edge noted
  • Respectful, factual and never pushy
